Who is this qualification for?
The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer and is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications.

How long will it take?
To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 42 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 29 contact hours (4-days) if self-study is undertaken.

These include the main characteristics of the Private Security Industry, the importance of safe working practices, roles and responsibilities of security officers, drug-misuse legislation, issues and procedures relevant to the role of a security officer, how to conduct effective search procedures, queue management, how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations and problem-solving techniques when resolving conflict.

Assessment method
This qualification is assessed by practical assessments and multiple-choice examinations.
